Steinbergs in Israel - Yemin & Soreq

Hi All & hello to a few new people i've added in to this email update. I know it might be a surprise to get this - but enjoy! (You can also see our travel diary on our blog - link below)

We had a lovely day wandering the streets of Yemin Moshe yesterday. Very cute uncrowded area with no cars, diagonally opp. the Jaffa Gate. The houses are built in a similar kind of style to the old city, but more upmarket, better views and less claustrophobic. Hard to believe that when Sir Moses Montefiore established it, they had to pay people to live there! Go figure. (although at the time it was subjected to Bedouin raids, it was slummy, and the Jordanians kept taking pot-shots at it until 1967... so i suppose people weren't silly back then - but now very much gentrified)

After school today we went to the Soreq limestone caves, which is located in the hills beside Bet Shemesh. The girls got a real kick out of seeing this cave and have learnt a bit about geology too(they can tell you how a stalagm/tite forms). I'll have the photos from the cave uploaded soon - so keep checking the picasa link below. After that we casually meandered our way south (actually i didn't realise which particular direction i was going) and ended up in gorgeous Ein Kerem - it was a stroke of luck because we had heard about it, but never thought we'd actually get there. This small village is situated at the bottom of some mountains (Haddasah hospital at the top) like being tucked away in a little nook, very rustic and cute and they have some great cafes & restaurants. We had a huge dinner at the kosher fleisz restaurant there and came out very satisfied.

The girls went straight to bed when we got back at ~7pm. The wind&rain&walk&car&dinner&school today had knocked us about just a bit...

The weather is cooler, blowy and wetter at the moment. Not really cold but the temperature differential from last week (30C+) and wind chill, makes you feel like you're in the middle of winter.

The girls are helping out at Yad Ezra tomorrow with Rochelle, packing food boxes, and i think a school friend of Talia's is coming for dinner.

We're all looking forward to doing the old city ramparts walk sometime in the next few days...

Hope all your horsies win tomorrow!
